UDC Falls to Regionally Ranked STAC

SPARKHILL, N.Y.- The University of the District of Columbia's men's basketball team suffered a tough 74-100, loss to St Thomas Aquinas College, Wednesday night at Aquinas Hall. The Firebirds fall to 4-5 in league play while the Spartans improve to 9-0. 

Michael Aiken led all scorers with 20 points going 7-12 from the field. Jahmir Marable-Williams also scored in the double-figures with 11 points. 

The Firebirds got off to a rocky start, with the Spartans going on a 15-4 run in the opening minutes. UDC responded going on a run of their own and getting the game back down to a one point deficit with a little over 12 minutes to go in the first half. STAC then slowly pulled away knocking down back to back threes extending the lead out to 16 going into the big break. 

The second half got even rockier for the Firebirds as the Spartans led by as much as 39 points, knocking down eight, three pointers en route to their victory. 

The Spartans shot the ball at 50% from the field while holding the Firebirds to 38%. The home team also out rebounded the visiting Firebirds 50-34. UDC did manage to force more turnovers and as a result converted 19, compared to the Spartans 14 points. 

Next Up, UDC (6-12, 4-5 ECC) heads back home as they prepare to host Mercy College on Saturday. Tip-off is set for 3:00 PM.
