Brownell Scores Twice As Spartans Double Up Lincoln, 4-2

Sparkill, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Soccer team earned its first conference win of the season on Wednesday, doubling up Lincoln University (Pa.) 4-2 in a matinee game at Spartan Field.

STAC improves to 2-4 overall and 1-1 within the ECC, while Lincoln falls to 1-6-2 and 0-3.

Rachel Brownell tallied two goals in the match, while Jo Porter netted one of her own. An own goal by Lincoln added to the Spartans totals on the scoreboard. In net, keepers Haley Liss and Catalena Robson played a half apiece and combined to stop six of eight shots faced.

How it Happened

  • 4th Minute: A throw-in was delivered to Oshynn Cosom, who would send a feed to Justyce King for the 30-yard boot to the top corner of the net, beating Haley Liss to make it 1-0 Lincoln.
  • 4th Minute: Off of the restart, and a series of passes, Jo Porter would find Rachel Brownell who danced around several defenders and blasted a shot to the left post and past a diving Ariel Reyes to tie the game at 1-1.
  • 19th Minute: A well-placed cross attempt by STAC's Jasmine Blue would go off of a defender's outstretched foot and into the back of the net for an own goal, giving the maroon and gold the 2-1 lead.
  • 22nd Minute: St. Thomas Aquinas put themselves up 3-1 moments later, as an initial shot by Rachel Brownell would ricochet off of a defender and to the foot of Jo Porter. Porter then shook off a Lincoln player and ripped a shot past Reyes for the goal.
  • 82nd Minute: Rachel Brownell's second goal of the game came via a free kick that sailed inside the left post, past an out of position Ariel Reyes to make it a 4-1 game.
  • 84th Minute: The final goal of the match came from Lincoln, as Keilani Broadnax drove down the field on her own, beating several Spartans and blasting a high shot over the head of Catalena Robson to cut the deficit to 4-2.
