ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Roberts Wesleyan University men's soccer team staged a valiant comeback attempt in the second half, but was unable to generate the tying goal in a 2-1 non-conference loss to Saint Michael's College on Wednesday afternoon.
"We are still trying to find our rhythm," Redhawks coach Scott Reber said. "We have the talent to get results, but unfortunately today we did not get the job done."
Saint Michael's took a 1-0 lead in the closing seconds of the first half and added a second goal in the 54
th minute, sparking a response from the Redhawks.
Junior
Toby Balaam answered with his first goal as a Redhawk, converting from 25 yards out in the 72
nd minute.
Roberts (0-2-1), which has several new players in its lineup this season, had some chances in the second half, but could not draw even. Junior
Caleb DaSilva made five saves for Roberts.
"On the positive side, we had a lot of guys that contributed and we went pretty deep with the bench," Reber said. "I thought that we controlled the middle of the park in the second half, but we just had some breakdowns."
Roberts, which kicked off a six-game homestand, returns to action at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday against Saint Anselm College.
