Freshman Mackenzie Creighton Leads The Purple Knights With A Career-High 28 Points
Sparkill, N.Y.-Trailing 60-57 with 3:41 to play, the University of Bridgeport women's basketball team closed the game out on a 13-0 run to post a 70-60 non-conference, road win over former East Coast Conference foe, the St. Thomas Aquinas College Spartans, on Monday afternoon. With the victory, UB is now 5-6 overall and STAC moves to 9-3 on the season.
Freshman Mackenzie Creighton (Rockaway, N.J.) led the Bridgeport offense on Monday netting a game and career-high 28 points, as she hit 11-of-15 field goals, including going a perfect 4-for-4 from behind the three-point arc.
Creighton was joined in double-digit scoring by classmate Amani Melendez (Woodbridge, Va.) who had 21 points, 14 of which came in the decisive fourth quarter, plus senior Stephanie McBride (Brooklyn, N.Y.) finished with her second double-double of the season with 11 points and a game-high 14 rebounds.
The Purple Knights dominated the glass versus the Spartans, as UB outrebounded the hosts by a 50-36 margin.
The UB women's basketball team will next be in action following the Holiday Break on Thursday, December 29 when the Purple Knights will return to Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play and take on Alliance University on the road. Tip-time in Jersey City, New Jersey is set for 5:30 pm.
