UDC Men's Basketball Ends Regular Season with Four Game Win Streak; Earns Post-Season Hosting Rights

WASHINGTON, DC- The University of the District of Columbia men's basketball team extended their win streak to four, defeating Roberts Wesleyan 90-66, to sweep the season series. The Firebirds improved to 12-13 on the season and 10-6 in conference play while the Redhawks fell to 9-14, 7-8 in the league. This marks the Firebirds first time sweeping the season series against RWU since the 2016-17 season and will host a post-season game for the first time since the 2015-16 season.

Juanye Colon came off the bench to lead all scorers with 20 points, off six treys and two free throws, shooting at 54% from behind the arc. Michael Aiken was up next posting 19 points off 58% shooting while dishing out six assists and three steals. Hartnel Haye was just one rebound shy of his fifth double-double of the season, with 10 points and team-high nine rebounds. Jahmir Marable-Williams also dished out a game-high 11 assists, which marks his sixth game this season with assists in double-figures and moves him up to sixth in the nation with 6.6 per game. 

The visitng Redhawks got off to 6-0 start in the openeing minutes, but the Firebirds responded with a 23-3 run that led to a 14 point deficit going into the half. 

UDC's offense did not let up in the second half, scoring 44 points on 50% shooting from the field, with Aiken and Colon combined for 19. When it was all said and done ten Firebirds ended up on the scoreboard leading the Redhawks by as much as 30 points.

UDC shot at 49.3% from the field while holding RWU to just 35.8%. The Redhawks outrebounded the Firebirds 52-37 and as a result had 15 second chance points (compared to UDC's 7).

Up Next, UDC (12-13, 10-6 ECC) await the results of the final conference games on Saturday, to determine their opponent in the quarterfinals, which will be held on March 1st at the E.B Henderson Sports Complex Gymnasium. The time is TBA.
