Anaya Makes Game-High Three Saves as Women's Soccer Plays at Adelphi

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. (Sept. 12, 2023) – Despite a game-high three saves from sophomore Kamy Anaya (Long Beach, Calif./Long Beach Poly), the Mercy University women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to Adelphi University on Tuesday afternoon at Motamed Field.

The Mavericks (1-2-1) fall to the Panthers (3-1) for the first time since 2017.

Anaya made a game-high three saves and allowed just one goal to take the loss. Sophomore Ancksu Dixon (Freeport, N.Y./Freeport) had a team-high two shots and one shot on goal.

Adelphi was led by Morgan Salmon who scored the game-winning goal. Krista Aliscio made one save to earn the win.

Anaya made a save in the 8th minute of action to keep the game scoreless. That would be the only shot on goal by either team in the half, sending the teams into halftime tied at 0-0.

Dixon recorded the Mavericks lone shot on goal in the 65th minute and Anaya made her second save in the 66th minute to keep the game scoreless. Anaya made her final save of the game in the 79th minute.

The Panthers drew a foul in the box in the 89th minute and Salmon connected on the ensuing penalty kick to give Adelphi the 1-0 lead. The Panthers would hold on for the 1-0 win in the final minute.

Adelphi held a 15-4 edge in shots and a 4-1 edge in shots on goal. Adelphi also held a 2-1 edge in corner kicks.

Interim Head Coach Jack Nicholson and the Mavericks resume action on Saturday, September 16th when they play at D'Youville at 12 p.m.
