Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

MEN'S SOCCER OPENS SEASON WITH FOUR-GOAL OUTBURST IN WIN OVER BLOOMFIELD

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Men's Soccer team opened their season with a four-goal performance in a shutout victory over Bloomfield College earlier today as the Dolphins defeated the Bears, 4-0.  Three newcomers to the Dolphins registered a goal in the victory and captain Daniel Angulo added another goal to his impressive career with CSI.  The Dolphins open their season 1-0 and remain unbeaten against Bloomfield in seven meetings.  The Bears open 2023 with an 0-1 record and are now 0-6-1 against the Dolphins.

The Dolphins opened the scoring early and never looked back as they led by a pair of goals just minutes after kickoff.  Aside from a Bears scoring chance that hit off the post and rolled out of play, the Dolphins did a great job limiting Bloomfield's first-half scoring chances, and they took a 2-0 lead into the break.  CSI would then go on to open the second half just as they started the first.  Consecutive goals coming in the first three minutes of the second half broke the game wide open and put the Dolphins up four.  From there, Amari Thompson and the CSI defense would work in tandem to maintain the clean sheet for the CSI goalkeeper and the Dolphins would go on to win 4-0.

Thompson posted a clean sheet against Bloomfield for the second consecutive season with the win, and the Dolphins match last year's season high for goals scored in a game with four.  Benjamin Hernandez, Alex Morris, and Miguel Espinosa all registered their first goals with the team, and the Dolphins also matched a 2022 season high with 22 shots.  The game also saw a great deal of physicality on display form start to finish as the two teams combined for 29 fouls and 8 bookings.

The Dolphins are back in action on Sunday as they face Assumption University in the first of back-to-back non-conference games on the road.  The team will not play at home again until Saturday September 9th against Bloomsburg University.
