Women's Lacrosse Opens The 2023 Season With A 14-4 Road Win Over St. Thomas Aquinas
Strong Team Effort Makes A Winner Of Coach Jessica Ormrod In Her Head Coaching Debut
Sparkill, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport women's lacrosse team got its 2023 season off to a strong start on a cold and snowy Saturday afternoon at St. Thomas Aquinas College, as the Purple Knights defeated the host Spartans (0-2), 14-4.
Freshman Tara Dimaio (Shirley, N.Y.) got her UB women's lacrosse career off to a fast start netting a game-high five goals and adding one assist, plus she picked up three ground balls and cause one STAC turnover.
Danielle Kreitler (Grad., Shelton, Conn.) added three goals and one assist for the winners, and she chipped in three ground balls and a pair of draw controls and two caused turnovers,
Senior Tereza Kreuzova (Prague, Czech Republic) and freshman Emily Stuart (Rising Sun, Md.) each had two goals for Bridgeport, and Stuart was strong on restarts with five draw controls.
Graduate student Andrea Basilicato (Guilford, Conn.) had three assists and goal on Saturday, and freshman Evelyn Edwards (Puyallup, Wash.) dished off three assists for the Purple Knights in the '23 season opener.
Megan Kreitler (Grad., Shelton, Conn.) rounded out the UB scoring parade with a goal and one assist.
Newcomer Genevieve Fayo (Fr., Cornwall, N.Y.) had an assist and picked up a team-best six ground balls on the day.
Sophomore Jackie Mellia (Nanuet, N.Y.) had a strong game between the pipes in Saturday's season opener making a total of 11 saves in facing 15 shots.
Saturday's victory also makes a winner of Coach Jessica Ormrod in her first game as a collegiate head coach.
Up next, the UB women's lacrosse team will board a plane and head for the Sunshine State of Florida, as the Purple Knights will face Palm Beach Atlantic on Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m. and Lynn University on Thursday afternoon at 4:00 p.m.
