How it Happened

  • Set One: The Spartans began the first set on a strong note as they took a 6-2 lead, before Queens went on a 6-1 run to take an 8-7 lead. Both teams would start a swing of points as they exchanged leads. The first set would see a total of nine ties and three lead changes as the squads answered each other point for point. With the set tied at 17-17, a 4-2 run would see the Knights take a 21-19 advantage with the Spartans calling a timeout. Using the timeout to their advantage, STAC would knot the set at 21-21 before three Spartans errors, combined with a Knights kill helped the hosts to take a 25-21 first set victory to lead the match, 1-0.
  • Set Two: The second set would be another quick start for the maroon and gold, as they took a 6-2 lead to begin the stanza. A Spartans service error would allow Queens to rally back for five kills to go along with a service ace as the Knights went on a 7-2 run to take a slim lead of 9-8. After a service error tied the second set for the sixth time, the Knights offense would take over as they went on a 9-2 run to take a commanding 18-11 lead. The hosts would not surrender the set and would go on to record a 25-14 victory to hold 2-0 match lead.
  • Set Three: The third set started out with 1-1 draw, but the Knights went on an 8-2 run to take a 9-3 lead. STAC would attempt a comeback with a 4-2 streak to cut the Queens advantage to 11-7. A solo block gave the hosts a 12-7 lead and serve back to Queens. Christina Franco would then record 11 straight serves as the Knights put together a 12-0 run to complete the series sweep with a 25-11 third set victory to earn the 3-0 triumph over the Spartans.
