Women's Lacrosse Drops Season Opener to Wilmington

Sparkill, N.Y. – The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Lacrosse team suffered a 17-0 defeat, by visitors from Wilmington University (Del.) in non-conference action on Saturday morning at Spartan Field. The game marked the start of the 2023 season for both schools.

STAC (0-1) was held to eight shots, 12 ground balls, and two draw controls on the day. Senior goalkeeper Colleen Stevens made 12 saves.

Ella Royer had five goals and and assist for Wilmington (1-0), which led, 11-0 at halftime. Teammates Ella Baynes and Maddie Day tallied three goals apiece.

Junior Hailey Galison picked up a team-high four ground balls for the Spartans, while Sophomore Katelyn Cerrato and Freshman Arianna Tribble recorded a draw control each.

STAC returns to action on Saturday, February 25, when the Spartans host the University of Bridgeport Purple Knights, with the opening draw set for 12:00 p.m.
