HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • STAC got its offense going immediately following the opening tip, as DeVante Jamison, Jordan Green and Kyle Pulliam all cashed in on early buckets to give the maroon and gold an 8-2 lead 3:22 into the contest.
  • Mercy broke the Spartans scoring streak with a layup, before Jamison, Luis Risquez and Pulliam connected on baskets to push the margin to double-digits at 16-4.
  • The host Mavericks finally got over the 10 point mark (25-11) with just under 10 minutes to play before halftime, as STAC had scored nine of the previous 14 points.
  • Kyle Pulliam's trey with a shade under five minutes to play in the first half, capped a 13-5 run and gave the Spartans a 22-point advantage, 38-16.
  • STAC maintained its 20 plus point advantage, despite Mercy being able to get shots to fall late in the stanza.
  • One final Pulliam three before the halftime buzzer put St. Thomas Aquinas College ahead 47-24 at the break.
  • Kyle Pulliam led all scorers with 22 first-half points for the Spartans, while Jayden Dewaal paced the Mavericks offense with six points.
  • When the teams returned to the hardwood for second half action, it would be the host Mavericks that would start out on a scoring streak, picking up five straight points to cut its deficit to 18, 47-29.
  • However, the red-hot Spartans offense would continue to rack up points, with Jordan Green, DeVante Jamison, Richard Smith, Luis Risquez and Kyle Pulliam all making contributions to a 12-2 streak, which pushed the visitor's lead to 59-31 with 15:00 to play in regulation.
  • STAC built its largest lead of the game (30 points), as Risquez connected from downtown to make it 65-35 with 13:23 left on the clock.
  • Mercy outscored STAC 28-16 over the final 12:43 of the game, as the Spartans offense cooled and the defense allowed the Mavericks to get multiple trips to both the basket and the foul line.
  • The Spartans hit the 80-point mark or better, for the 16th time in 24 contests, with a James Patterson three in the closing seconds of the game to make it 81-57.
  • Mercy put up the final six points of the night, but it would be too late for a rally try, as STAC ran out the clock for the 18-point triumph.
