Four Unanswered Second Half Goals Propel Firebirds to First Conference Victory of the Season

GERMANTOWN, MD- The University of the District of Columbia's men's soccer team defeated Daemen University 4-0 en route to their first conference victory of the season. The Firebirds improved to 1-1-2 in conference play while the Wildcats fell to 1-2.

Santiago Gordillo Martinez, Isaiah Daniel and Axel Gamez were responsible for the Firebirds four goals. Gordillo Martinez' goal was assisted by Giovanni Campero, Isaiah Daniel's goal was assisted by Anthony Del Cid Gonzalez and both of Gamez' goals were unassisted. Sergio Becerra made one save to post his second shutout of the season. 

UDC and Daemen battled to a first half 0-0 score. The Firebirds had some great shots but couldn't get them to land. The second half was a different story as UDC exploded with a season best four goals . Six minutes into the second half, Campero took a free kick that landed right on the head of Gordillo Martinez and straight into the back of the net.  Three minutes later, Daniel scored his first collegiate goal, after blasting a goal past two defenders and the goalkeeper straight into the bottom left of the net. 

The final 13 minutes of play was all Gamez, as he added two goals to his profile. Hist first goal game from a penalty kick where he blasted the ball to the right side of the back of net. His second goal came after going one on one with a Daemen midfielder, sprinting up the left side of the field, cutting right beating out multiple defenders and then blasting the ball about ten yards out up and over the goalkeepers head staright into the back of the net. 

The Firebirds dominated in shots taken, 23-2 and took six corner kicks compared to the Wildcats one. 

Up Next, UDC (3-4-3, 1-1-2 ECC) will head to East Stroudsburg for a non conference play match up on Wednesday, October 4th.
