Women's Lacrosse Upended at D'Youville, 15-5

Buffalo, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Lacrosse team suffered a 15-5 defeat at the hands of D'Youville University on Saturday morning at Dobson Field in Western New York.

The Spartans received a hat-trick from sophomore Katelyn Cerrato and a goal each from junior Hailey Galison and freshman Arianna Tribble in the match.

D'Youville held the upper hand in shots (29-22) and ground balls (20-11) and went 17-for-21 on clears. STAC won 14-of-22 draw controls and was 11-for-13 on clear attempts. On free-position shots, the Saints were 1-for-5, while the Spartans were 0-for-4.

STAC falls to 1-10 overall and 0-3 in ECC play with the loss, while D'Youville improves to 6-5 and 2-0 with the win.

Junior Hailey Galison scored the first goal for the Spartans just 31 seconds in the second quarter. Sophomore Katelyn Cerrato tallied a pair of second quarter goals, while freshman Arianna Tribble also scored in the second stanza. Cerrato netted the game's final goal in the closing seconds of the match.

For D'Youville, Sydney Gordon led the way with five goals and an assist, while Sam Newlin had five points on four goals and an assist. Emily Fischer (two goal, one assist), Madison Handley (two goals), Danielle Thompson (one goal, four assists), and Madison Buck (one goal, two assists) also contributed to the Saints' offense.

Senior goalie Colleen Stevens (L, 1-10) made five stops on the day, while D'Youville's Brinn Stworzydlak (W, 6-5) turned away 11 shots.
