Strong Team Effort Propels Firebirds Over Saints 92-71

BUFFALO, N.Y. -The University of the District of Columbia's men's basketball team defeated D'Youville University 92-71, Friday night, to sweep the conference series. The Firebirds improved to 6-5 in conference play which keeps them in fourth place in the standings. The Saints fell to 2-9. Eleven Firebirds made their way onto the scoreboard in this conference match up. Juanye Colon led the way with a game high 18 points and four steals. Michael Aiken was up next with 13 points and a team high seven rebounds Torrence Horton and Jahmir Marable-Williams rounded out double-figure scoring with Horton netting 12 and Marable-Williams with 11. Marable Williams also had six assists and six rebounds. It was a close 16 minutes in the first half, as the Saints countered every lead the Firebirds tried to extend . The turning point came with a little under three minutes, as UDC went on a 12-0 run that opened up a 10 point lead going into the half. 

The Firebirds second half turned out to be their best, as they scored 52 points. The Saints almost doubled their scoring efforts but it wasn't enough to cut into the deficit as UDC kept their foot on the gas.

UDC shot at 50% from the field and the Saints shot at 42.2%. The Firebirds also had the edge on rebounds 40-36 and bench points 46-34. DYU managed more points in the paint 48-42, but the Firebirds shot better from downtown 37.5%- 10.5%. Next Up, UDC (8-12, 6-5 ECC) completes their Upstate road trip on Sunday in Amherst with a tip-off time of 2:00PM .
