Firebirds Unable to Withstand Late Surge by the Fighting Scots

WASHINGTON , DC- The University of the District of Columbia's women's lacrosse team fell to Edinboro University, Saturday afternoon at the Georgetown Day School Field. The Firebirds fell to 1-3 on the season, while the Scots picked up their first win to improve to 1-1.

Jada Williams scored a game-high eight goals, while winning seven draw controls and picking up five ground balls. Alejandra Lainez-Rodriguez added four goals, won six draw controls and picked up 10 ground balls. Teammate Michelle Mitchell grabbed a game-high 11 ground balls to add to her four points off two goals and two assists. Shanise Taylor and Ana Sanchez both picked up their first points of the season, each adding an assist. Natalia Perkins made a game-high 11 saves. 

UDC got off to a hot start scoring the first three goals of the game in which they opened up a six point deficit with just 3:58 remaining in the second quarter.  

Edinboro came out the half fighting, going on a 4-0 run in the last five minutes of the third to tie the score 13 all, going into the fourth. The Fighting Scots took over the fourth quarter outscoring the Firebirds 7-1, with their last four goals coming from UDC's man down.

UDC was plagued by turnovers picking up 21 compared to Edinboros 14. The visitors also outshot the home team 38-27, but the Firebirds picked up more ground balls, 48-35.

UDC, (1-3, 0-0 ECC) will host Chestnut Hill, Wednesday evening (5:30 PM) at the Jackson Reed High School Field.
