Redhawks Shut Out D'Youville On Senior Day

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Roberts Wesleyan University women's soccer team took a few minutes prior to Saturday afternoon's match against D'Youville to honor its three graduating seniors.
After recognizing Gabrielle Ciambella, Nicolette Knauf and Jessica Savage, the Redhawks (6-1, 2-0 East Coast Conference) did something that they have done all season. They went to work and earned their fourth consecutive shutout victory.
Courtney Felton scored in the 37th minute and Alena Weibel struck in the 54th as the Redhawks defeated D'Youville 2-0 in an ECC game. Knauf made three saves to earn her third clean sheet of the season and the 21st of her career.
The victory was the 31st for Ciambella, Knauf and Savage since they arrived on campus in the fall of 2020.
"Our three seniors that we honored today have made a great impact on our program," Redhawks coach Sarah McClellan said. "It was great for us to be able to celebrate them today and we look forward to having them continue to lead us throughout the season."
Felton, a sophomore, converted off a scramble in front to give the Redhawks a 1-0 lead. The goal, her third of the season, was assisted by Abigail Sindoni.
Weibel, a sophomore, unleashed a 30-yard laser for her fourth of the season after taking a pass from Ciambella in the 54th minute.
Roberts controlled play throughout the game, registering a 16-4 advantage in shots while notching its fourth victory in 15 days.
"We have just challenged the players to compete at a high level, no matter what," McClellan said. "That is not an easy ask, but we are getting the job done."
The Redhawks will travel to Molloy for a matchup between ECC unbeatens at 4 p.m. on Tuesday.
