Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team was tied 19-19 after one quarter with the number nine ranked team in the nation and the 2019 NCAA Division II East Region Champions, the Saint Anselm College Hawks on Sunday afternoon in the 2019 UB Women's Basketball Classic, but the visitors outscored UB, 31-13, in the second quarter to pull away on their way to a 93-68 win. The Purple Knights are now 0-2 on the young season, and St. Anselm remains unbeaten at 2-0.
Senior Jaqualah Holliman (Boston, Mass.), junior Kyle Felton (Lithonia, Ga.) and sophomore Gianna Gotti (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) led the Purple Knights in scoring as they each netted 10 points.
UB freshman Gracen Kerr (Ansonia, Conn.) dished off a game-high eight assists, and classmate Vienna Knox (Middletown, Conn.) led her team with five rebounds.
Ryan Shannon led St. Anselm with a double-double of 28 points and 14 rebounds.
Up next, the UB women's basketball team will travel to local rival the University of New Haven on Saturday evening. Game time is set for 6:30 p.m.
