UDC Struggles From the Field, Drops Conference Match-Up Against D'Youville

WASHINGTON, DC- The University of the District of Columbia's women's basketball team fell to D'Youville University, 44-50, Friday night at the E.B Henderson Sports Complex. The Firebirds fell to 2-2 in the conference while the Saints improved to 2-3.

Three Firebirds scored in the double-figures, with Latavia Jackson and Destiny Ryles leading the way with 14 points each. Tori Williams scored 12 points while grabbing a team high eight rebounds and made two blocks. Aiyana Ellis also pulled down eight rebounds, six of which were on the defensive end and alos made two blocks and a steal.

UDC combined for a total of 16 first half points, the lowest they've had all season. They led the Saints 8-5 going into the second quarter but the Saints pulled out a 13 point quarter to take the the 18-16 point lead into half-time.

 While they were able to hit double figures in both the second and third quarters it wasn't enough as DYU pulled away to the 50-44 victory. 

The Firebirds were held to 26.9% shooting from the field while their opponents shot at 32.1%. The home team managed to outrebound the Saints 47-43, but had more turnovers which led to more points off turnovers for their opponenets. 

Next Up, UDC (7-8, 2-2 ECC) will head to N.Y. to face off against Molloy University on Wednesday. Tip-off is set for 5:30 PM.
