ECC Announces Winter Sport Elite 19 Award Winners

West Babylon, N.Y. - The East Coast Conference announced the recipients of its winter sports Elite 19 Awards on Wednesday.

The ECC Elite 19 honor is awarded to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade point average competing in each of the ECC's 19 championships.

Award winners were selected in the sports of men's and women's basketball and women's bowling. Winners were not selected in the sport of men's and women's indoor track & field after the ECC's Championships were canceled this season.

Mercy College's Garrett Kirkland  (men's basketball), Roberts Wesleyan's Arianna Carey (women's basketball), and St. Thomas Aquinas' Niamh McKevitt (women's bowling) were named the Elite 19 award winners for their respective sports.

Kirkland, a sophomore with a 3.91 grade point average as a Cyber Security major was a key contributor off the bench for the Mavericks. He averaged 8.4 points per game in just 19.0 minutes played per game.

Carey, who holds a 3.93 GPA as a sophomore Physical Education major, helped Roberts Wesleyan claim their first-ever ECC Women's Basketball Championship. Carey appeared in nine games and made one of her two shot attempts on the season.

McKevitt earns the Elite 19 honor after compiling a 3.96 GPA as a senior History major. Individual statistical data for the season from McKevitt or St. Thomas Aquinas' team, who finished 0-4 at the ECC Championship, is currently unavailable.
