West Babylon, N.Y. - On Thursday afternoon, the East Coast Conference announced the 2018-19 recipients of its annual Academic Team of Excellence Awards.

The ECC Academic Team of Excellence Awards are presented to the team with the highest cumulative grade point average in their respective sport. For the first time since the creation of the award, the University of Bridgeport earned the most selections with five teams honored. Roberts Wesleyan and New York Tech finished right behind Bridgeport with four teams earning the top mark. Molloy and LIU Post had two apiece, while Daemen and St. Thomas Aquinas had one.

A total of nine teams repeated as winners of the award. Two teams, Bridgeport softball and volleyball, have now won the honor in all seven seasons of the award's existence. Also repeating as winners are Molloy men's basketball and women's outdoor track & field, Roberts Wesleyan men's indoor and men's outdoor track & field, New York Tech men's and women's tennis, and Bridgeport women's soccer.

In all, 127 teams (77 percent of the conference's teams) achieved a 3.0 team GPA or higher. Bridgeport's women's volleyball team compiled the highest overall team GPA in the conference with a mark of 3.792.  On the men's side, New York Tech's men's tennis team led the way with a 3.61 GPA.
