ECC Commissioner’s Cup Awarded to LIU Post for Second Straight Year

Central Islip, N.Y. - The LIU Post Pioneers have been named the winners of the 2013-2014 East Coast Conference (ECC) Commissioner's Cup. This marks the second straight year the honor has been awarded to the LIU Post athletic department. Under the direction of Director of Athletics, Bryan Collins, the Pioneers amassed 92 total points, to reclaim the Cup for the fifth time since it was established in 1994.

The Pioneers compiled an overall program record of 195-76-2 in ECC sponsored sports and competed in nine of ten ECC Championships with tournament titles in men’s soccer, men’s cross country, women's cross country, softball, and men's lacrosse. LIU Post also picked up regular season championships in men’s soccer, women’s basketball, softball, and women’s lacrosse.

Roberts Wesleyan compiled 81.5 total points to earn a second place finish.  Although still ineligible to win conference championships as NCAA Provisional Members, the Redhawks finished high on the list after coming in first in the ECC's men's cross country, women's cross country, women's indoor track & field, and women's outdoor track & field championships. The Redhawks would have earned a spot in the ECC women's tennis, women's basketball, and men's tennis championships if they had been eligible.

Molloy rounds out the top three with 80 points. The Lions captured a championship in men's indoor track & field and were also finalists in the ECC Softball Championship.

The ECC Commissioner’s Cup
The East Coast Conference Commissioner's Cup is emblematic of the league's top program across its 17 championship sports. A new scoring system was established in 2013-14 to further reward programs that succeed in both regular-season and post-season play. The scoring system works as follows:

• Points for the number of schools whose teams compete for the post-season championship are split between the team that finishes in that place during the year and the team that finishes in that place in the championship.
• If a team is eliminated in the semi-finals or quarterfinals, its place is determined by its finish during the regular season.
• A school which does not sponsor a sport receives 0 points for that sport.
• Highest point total for each sport is the number of schools that sponsor that given sport
• For Cross Country and Track & Field, championship meet finish is utilized.
• Example: Team A wins regular season, finishes second in tournament: (11 + 10) / 2 = 10.5 points
• Example: Team B finishes fourth in regular season, wins tournament: 8 + 11 / 2 = 9.5 points
