DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. - About half a dozen Mercy College student-athletes from the Mavericks' Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) acted as ambassadors for the college at the annual Dobbs Ferry "Ferry Festa" on Saturday, Sept. 12.
"Part of being in the NCAA's Division II is a commitment to enhancing the collegiate experience with the Community Engagement Initiative. Participating in this fun day was a way for our student-athletes to give back to our community of Dobbs Ferry," said Mercy College Director of Athletics Pat Kennedy. "It was a great way to have fun, while keeping up the spirit and visibility of Mercy College. I appreciate all the extra effort and positive faces representing Mercy College Athletics."
The members of SAAC along with their advisor, Assistant Athletic Director Dr. Darryl Bullock, assisted the Mercy College admissions staff in reaching out to the Dobbs Ferry community as well as engaging the Festa attendees in various games such as Ultimate Frisbee.
"It was a great day and a really positive way to represent both Mercy College and really reach out to the community," remarked Bullock.
The 2009 Ferry Festa ran from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m., on Main Street and Cedar Street with the backdrop of the majestic Hudson River and Palisades. It also features many street vendors and community artists and musicians.
