Jun 16, 2009

Albany, N.Y. - New York state governor David Paterson met with the C.W. Post men's lacrosse NCAA national championship team and the Adelphi University women's lacrosse NCAA national champion team at the State House on June 9.  C.W. Post and Adelphi were two of four teams honored along with the Division I men's national champion Syracuse University and the Division III men's champion SUNY Cortland.

The teams were invited to a reception where they met with the Governor as well as state representatives, including local Assemblyman Rob Walker, who was a member of the 1996 championship team. Following the reception, the team was given a tour of the Capitol Building.

"It was truly an honor to be recognized Governor Paterson and our state leaders," remarked C.W. Post head coach John Jez. "Our players worked hard all season to attain their goal of a national title and it's so nice to receive this recognition."

"Today was a tremendous honor for our student-athletes as well as Adelphi University," added head coach Joe Spallina. "It was an opportunity the team earned through their hard work and dedication to win a national championship. We appreciate the recognition given to us by Governor Paterson."

C.W. Post (15-1) took home its second national championship in program history by defeating top-ranked and undefeated LeMoyne College on May 24.

Adelphi (18-0) completed a perfect season with the school's third national title in six years.
