Oakdale, NY- The Collegiate Rowing
Coaches Association has announced the 2009 Division II Pocock
All-America Team, with Paulina Wojciechowska and Monika Zdrojewska
of the Dowling Women's Rowing team making the squad for the second
straight year.
As a junior and member of the Varsity 8, Paulina has continued to
improve and remain aggressive in her training since coming to
Dowling in 2006. Boasting the best strength to weight ratio
on the team, she helped Dowling take third place in the NCAA
Division II National Championship Regatta both in 2007 and 2008,
sitting stroke during the 2007 campaign. Currently sitting
five seat in the Varsity 8, Wojciechowska has once again helped
propel her team to another NCAA DII National Championship Regatta
bid.
In her senior year at Dowling College, Monika remains a mainstay on
the Varsity 8 boat as she sits at the seven seat position.
Also joining the team in 2006, she has been a part of both lineups
that placed in the National Championship Regatta Varsity 8 Grand
Final in 2007 and 2008. In addition, she helped lead her team
to two straight Dad Vail Regatta first place finishes in the
Varsity 8 event in those same years. While back home in
Poland, Monika rows for the Under 23 National Team where she earned
second place at the 2008 World Championships sitting at stroke.
Receiving her bachelor's degree in Psychology this year, Zdrojewska
will return to the squad next year as a graduate student.
Both student-athletes are also active in the community, donating
their time to many team and campus initiatives including the Keep
Islip Clean program as well as the Suffolk County Children's Pig
Roast.
The Dowling Women's Rowing team will travel to Cherry Hill, NJ this
weekend as the Varsity 8 will compete in the 2009 Division II
National Championship Regatta. Check www.dowling.edu/athletics
