
Flushing, NY - Concordia College claimed seven of the nine titles in the East Coast Conference Men's Tennis Flight Championships held at Queens College.
The Clippers claimed victories at the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles flights. The Grubin/Malobicky duo came back from 5-love down to win the final eight games and steal the match (8-5). Belhadj/Kim battled to victory as they scored three of the last four points in the tiebreaker to seal the win.
In singles play Alex Grubin (CC) defeated Fabio Minami (QC), 6-0, 6-3 to reclaim his No. 1 singles title. Dave Burstein won the only singles title for Queens by defeating Saulo Gonzales of Dowling, 6-3, 6-2 in the No. 2 singles championship match. Richi Malobicky (CC) took the No. 3 title after James Preston (QC) retired. Josep Molet (CC) secured the No. 4 singles title with a 7-5, 6-0 victory over Adelphi's Anton Voynov. Viktor Kim (CC) defeated Danilo Hiraoka (QC) 6-2, 6-4 to win the No. 5 singles title. Robby Scheuing (QC) claimed a first set victory (5-7) over Karim Belhadj (CC), but Belhadj battle back to win the next two sets 6-2, 6-3 and take the No. 6 title.
