
Bronxville, NY - The Concordia College Clippers defeated the Queens College Knights by a score of 5-2 to claim the 2009 East Coast Conference Men's Tennis Championships at Meyers Tennis Center today.
The Concordia Clippers held a 2-1 edge after doubles play. Alex Grubin and Andrey Boldarev teamed up to claim a win at the No. 1 doubles defeating Patryk Polus and Fabio Minami 8-4. The Knights lone doubles victory was at the No. 2 spot with James Preston and Danilo Hiraoka defeating Victory Kim and Karim Belhadj 8-4. Henning Ruenz and Richard Malobicky claimed an 8-2 win over David Burstein and Jesse Smith in No. 3 doubles.
Once again Queens was able to take just one match in singles play with Smith defeating Belhadj in No. 4 singles action. However, the Clippers would take both the No. 5 and No. 6 to seal the Championship win.
Both teams will advance to the NCAA Regional Tournament.
